Description

Every day, 96 Americans are killed with guns and hundreds more are shot and injured using the more than 300 million firearms that exist in this country. The murder rate in the United States using guns is 25 times higher than the next closest country among the 22 high-income nations. Join us for an examination of how our faith traditions grapple with the need to maintain safety and security with the religious imperative against killing. The program will feature:

1. Rabbi Joel Mosbacher, Congregation Shaaray Tefila in New York City, who Co-Chairs a national campaign to curb gun violence. Article on Rabbi Mosbacher from the NY Times.

2. Dr. Tobias Winright, Hubert Mäder Endowed Chair of Health Care Ethics, St. Louis University, former law enforcement officer and an expert on Christian ethics.

This is the next program in the ongoing “Shared Roots, Divergent Paths” interfaith series between AJC Westchester/Fairfield and Iona College. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required at the link below.

Co-sponsored by AJC Westchester/Fairfield and the Driscoll Professorship in Jewish-Catholic Studies at Iona College.

AJC Westchester/Fairfield connects the local community with AJC’s global advocacy work to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel. Our access to diplomats, elected officials, and interfaith leaders at the local level advances AJC’s broader global priorities: combating anti-Semitism, promoting Israel’s place in the world, and countering the spread of radicalism and extremism.
